Itchin!

March 8, 2010

I have the itch. You know, that overwhelming urge to go somewhere, anywhere! I was looking at some old travel images on the weekend and it gave me the itch!. There is an opportunity to go to Costa Rica soon, hours of yoga on the beach, surfing and good food. Anyone been? ….thoughts?.

So here’s a little ode to the itch that is travel, may we all get a good scratch this year.

San Francisco

San Francisco is amazing!. If I had to choose any other city to live I think I’d choose San Fran. I flew down this past October to watch my friends run the Nike Women’s Marathon.

The images to follow depict all of the fun things we did in the city by the bay.

I left Vancouver in the rain and cold and arrived a few hours later to warm sunny skies, my friends Mike and Darren awaited me at the airport.

We went straight from the airport to a bar near Darren’s place called The Ramp. I don’t seem to have any photos of The Ramp or the 500 Club which we went to later that night so I stole one from Peter’s facebook page. Thanks Peter if your reading this. If you didn’t click on the 500 Club link the first time you should, there website is hillarious. I went to use the restroom at this bar and in the middle of the stanky floor was someone’s entire wardrobe. I stood whizzing on an american dollar bill someone had left? in the urinal, looked over and noticed a pair of bare feet on the wet tile in the stall next to me. The owner I suspected of the neatly folded clothes in the middle of the room??.

I stayed with Darren who will be known hereafter as “Hubbs”. Hubbs has a cool apartment just on the edge of the city on Portrero Hill.

We woke up early and rented scooters to follow the girls around the marathon. There were three scooters left to rent in the store, I was first through the door and lay claim to the newest, sweetest and fastest of the three. It was slower than both the others and I spent the entire day 100 yards behind. Now and then Mike and Hubbs would let me get a head start to our next location only to rip up beside me, taunt me and laugh their asses off while they zipped on by. My scooter was so slow I actually had to help it along up some of the hills!, there are allot of hillls in San Fran. I’m not sure if I have any images of the scooters and even if I do I’m not going to include them. Stupid scooter!

We made signs to cheer the ladies on!

We toured the Takara Sake factory to learn how Sake is produced and to wander around the Sake museum. I bought a few bottles of Sake but forgot I had it in my carry on bag and it was confiscated at the airport.
