BANG! BANG!

My friends suggested we ride our bikes down to Stanley Park on Friday night to watch the nine o’clock gun (scare the s*#t out of everyone in the vicinity) go off. I’ve heard the echoing thud a hundred times but had never actually witnessed it up close before.

We hustled down to the park with only minutes to spare, we raced past hallelujah point and there sat the unassuming 193 year old gun in it’s metal cage.

We arrived and found a seat on the grassy hill behind the gun, Mike seemed excited.

I inspected.

We wait, checking the time on our phones every 30 seconds in hopes of actually snapping an image of the gun in action. 8:59pm suddenly these little red lights in front of the gun shack start flashing and the gun starts making a noise not unlike something you would here in a submarine movie. My camera firmly planted against my eye I prepare myself to take a burst of images in hopes of capturing the money shot. BANG!!!!

I got the shot!. The full rez version of this image is actually quite blurry, I suspect that’s the case with most handheld shots of the gun going off. As hard as you try to keep still it startles you.

The tripod however doesn’t flinch, I set this up just behind the gun to give you the full effect. Turn up your speakers.

If you are interested in learning more about Stanley Parks nine o’clock gun this link seems to cover it all. I recommend heading down and seeing it for yourself, it’s the only free entertainment in Vancouver these days.

We continued our ride around the park after the gun, the following are random photos from that evening.

Big BANG = big FUN! What a beautiful evening. Why don’t we ride down more often? The seawall is two minutes away.
